We’ve already played Prey, and you can read what we thought in our review, but here’s everything you need to know about the game, including  gameplay and platforms, plus trailers and screenshots.

When was Prey released in the UK?

Considering the original Prey announcement was made five years ago, fans of the series have been waiting for a while – although as you’ll find out below, this isn’t the Prey that was announced all those years ago. Instead, it has been reimagined by an entirely new studio and will now offer a near-future sci-fi FPS. Anyway, we digress – when did it come out? 5 May 2017.

Which platforms is Prey available on?

The game is available to buy on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Gameplay and features

So, what can we expect from the cancelled-then-revived Prey? Well as mentioned above, the game has completely changed from the one introduced to us five years ago by Human Head, with the game development now being handled by Arkane Studios. We’re looking at a sci-fi first person shooter where you’re aboard a space station in 2032 working on an experiment meant to change the course of human evolution. Dramatic. But, as these things tend to go, the station has been overrun by aliens and well, that’s not good news for you. Fighting hostile aliens using wits, weapons and mind-bending abilities? We’re sold. If you want to find out more about the gameplay, we discuss it in more detail in our Prey review.

Opening hour demo

Bethesda is clearly confident it’s got a great game on its hands, because it thinks the best way to promote it is to put it directly into players’ hands.  The company released a free demo for Prey a week before the full game’s 5 May release. The demo is for PS4 and Xbox One (but not PC), and lets players run through the first hour of the game, exploring the Talos I space station and getting up close and personal with some alien nasties. If you want to try it out, you’ll be able to find the demo on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store.

Trailers

In December 2016 new Prey gameplay was showcased for the first time at The Game Awards, and was welcomed by huge cheers by the crowd. It’s short, at just over two-minutes, but is enough to get players excited about the upcoming game.

For those wanting to see more about what Prey has to offer, look no further than the below gameplay walkthrough. It’s a longer version of the above trailer, showcasing the various in-game mechanics in action, as well as a taste of what to expect in terms of graphics.

Screenshots

Following the Bethesda E3 2016 press conference, the company released a handful of screenshots from the trailer which can be found at the top of this page.
